In October 2019, Saemteo, one of the popular Korean monthly magazines announced that they would stop publishing due to financial problems, saying that the December issue would be the last. Then, several readers expressed their regret and donated money to maintain the company, so that finally the magazine became  able to be published again in 2020.
Saemteo is a monthly paper-based magazine, which was first released in April 1970, with mostly writings about Korean culture and the marginalized people in contemporary Korean society. However, due to the lack of finance, the magazine  decided to close in 2019. After the announcement, many people called the company and expressed their intention of donating what little money they had and do whatever they could do to keep it running.
One of the readers, who lived in Germany, said, "I feel like I've lost my friendly companion. It was a kind friend who told me about my home country..." Furthermore, one prisoner sent a message to the Saemteo magazine office, saying, "Although I am now locked up, I will donate the remaining money to society anonymously. Please make sure you keep Saemteo."
It is notable that a particular sentiment, such as feeling lost and empty, led the collective and spontaneous movement of people. It shows how Saemteo has been a buttress of people's lives, despite their financial problems. Now, they return and prepare for the 50th anniversary issue. If there were no attention and sympathy from the readers, Saemteo could not have come back. Its readers probably return the affectionate warm-heartedness and sincerity Saemteo has given them for the past 50 years.
